Liberty's housing spans its long history. U.S. Highway 90 is Liberty's principal corridor, running southwest toward the Houston metro and northeast through the county, while State Highway 146 connects the city north and south to the wider region. The city sits roughly 45 miles northeast of downtown Houston, placing the metro's employment centers within commuting range for residents willing to make the drive. As in much of southeast Texas, daily travel is car-dependent, and the county's growth has increased traffic along its main corridors.
